Finishing Strong
Dear Students and Colleagues,
Happy last day of classes, Pioneers! And boy, are we closing the semester out with a bang.
Last week, we hosted two incredible showcases of our students’ academic work. Both the annual Student Conference for Research, Professional Activities, and Creative Arts and the Small Business Plan “Shark Tank-Inspired” Competition were impressive demonstrations of our students’ talents and creativity. I would say I was blown away if it weren’t for the fact that, like all of you, I see the remarkably high caliber of work taking place on this campus every day. Cases in point, just over the past two weeks:
- Senior English major Glory Stevens had a poem published in the national literary journal Folio. Read her poem here.
- Dominick Geloso, a senior Construction Management major, presented two papers at the Associated Schools of Construction Conference at Cal Poly.
- MBA student Revati Nasikkar was awarded Best Poster at the Association for Computing Machinery New York Celebration of Women in Computing conference; at that same event, senior Computer Science major Makayla Coleman presented research and also led a workshop.
These are but a few of the many examples of how our students are excelling across the board in all academic areas – a testament to the outstanding mentorship they’ve received in the classroom and the lab. I cannot possibly highlight here everything our soon-to-be-graduates were engaged in over the course the semester or even the past several weeks. Of course, we will recognize all of them in just a few short days when they cross the Commencement stage. Moreover, I know this message will spur some of you to share with me equally impressive examples of student achievement. I hope you won’t hesitate to do so.
You’ll recall the recent study I shared last week showing that Utica University delivers exceptional value on the basis of affordability and post-graduate earnings. While those are both very important measures, so too is the caliber of academic work our students are producing. I’m proud to say Utica University is earning very high marks in all three categories.
Sincerely,
Stephanie Nesbitt
