Prestigious Teacher Education honor awarded to UC Professor/Dean

A Utica College Professor is the recipient of a prestigious award honoring their exemplary service in special education.

Dr. Patrice Hallock, Professor Education and Dean of the School of Health Professions and Education, was awarded the Nasim Dil Service Award for Outstanding Service to Teacher Education.

Announced Thursday, November 8 at the Teacher Education Division (TED) of the Council for Exceptional Children 2018 Conference in Las Vegas, the award is given by the Small Special Education Programs Caucus (SSEPC) to an individual who has demonstrated exemplary service to the development and advancement of quality teacher education in special education from small programs, defined as having seven or fewer special education faculty and no doctoral program in Special Education.

“Not only was this a tremendous honor, it was also a big surprise!” said Dr. Hallock.

The Teacher Education Division of the Council for Exceptional Children has hosted an annual national conference every year since 1979. The TED Conference is a venue for sharing and gaining knowledge related to the field of special education teacher preparation, networking with colleagues, and becoming more involved with the organization.

Utica College’s School of Health Professions and Education offers a Master of Science degree in its Special Education Teacher Certification Program, aimed at individuals who have initial certification and wish to add certification in special education and are seeking to meet the New York State requirements for permanent or professional certification.
